Product Description

Rugged signet ring with an embossed anchor and a hand engraved “Hold Fast“ on the sides. The engravure is cut by hand with a sharp graver into the Sterling Silver. The embossing form of the Anchor was hand engraved in 1910 in Hamburg, Germany. The basic shape of this ring is made with an old embossing tool. We collect these steel tools and have around 700.

The words “Hold fast“ refer to a traditional sailor’s tattoo beeing placed on the four front-facing fingers on each hand. Sailors hope it brings them good luck while gripping the rigging. “Holding fast“ means the sailor isn't going to let the line go, no matter what. Life on a sailing ship was tough so these words became a synonym of perseverance in difficult times.
